WHY WORMS?

First there was the worm. 500 million years ago. Before the dinosaurs. Before the fish. Before the human. And after this blip of humanness, the worm shall remain. The worm is the weaver, the dancer, the slimer, the troublemaker, the yarner, the mischiever, the misdemeanour. The worm is the lesson we tread on and the answer we ignore. The alchemist who conjures life from ruins. Summon the worm. Our practice is rooted in the fight for ecological and social justice. We seek to achieve this through three methods.

RESIST       Regenerating communities through Theatre of the Oppressed

IMAGINE    Telling stories of hope and resistance

BUILD         Empowering young people through creativity   â€‹â€‹â€‹

We facilitate Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) workshops to regenerate communities and inspire dialogue for social change. TO is a participatory art form that asks us to examine systems of power operating within our institutions, communities, and bodies. It empowers us to challenge power not as passive spectators but as active accountable agents. TO is a liberating practice which provokes individual and collective transformation.

Our work is inspired by Barbara Santos’s feminist aesthetics, which centres the lived experiences of marginalised peoples.

The Banality of Evil

We tell stories of hope in a time of crisis. We yarn tales of rebellion and mischief. Our work confronts ecological injustice and normalised systems of insanity seeking to repair the rupture between human and ecology.

BUILD

We seek to empower young people through creativity. Creative Space for Youth is our sister project which offers alternative learning environments to young people in marginalised communities. Our approach is child-led: we centre play as the radical act of becoming, we honour curiosity and autonomy. Through this collaborative process, we nurture self-confidence, deepen care for local ecologies and strengthen the roots of community.
